When I was 16 years old my dad, a mechanic at an Oldsmobile dealer, bought a 1965 442. The car was dark blue with white interior and had the 2 speed Jet-A-Way automatic. I wanted the three speed standard but he said my mother would be driving it and if I didnt stop pestering him there would be no 442. I shut up and we got the car. I flogged that car and the tires didnt last long.
The years passed and after a career in the navy I suddenly turned 50. I started to look for a 65 442 again but found there were not many around. I found this car in Santa Monica CA. I bought it in September of 2004 without even going to look at it. It was all numbers matching with all of its original parts. It has the Muncie M-21 4 speed with 3.90 gears in the rear. The car looked good body and interior wise but there were plenty of mechanical and electrical issues. After four years all of the problems have been corrected. I rebuilt the front end, adding all new springs and shocks, rebuilt the engine and corrected the multiple electrical gremlins.
The author of this website has been a great help for me with all the detailing of my car and helping me make it as correct as possible. I enjoy taking it to the local shows and just driving it. It took Publishers Choice at the Hemmings Motor News Thursday Cruise In. And last year it took 2nd Favorite Olds at Hemmings Musclepalooza VI.
I hope everyone enjoys the pictures and my story.
